Jacob J. Sandgren

Jacob John Sandgren, or Jake, was born on June 14, 1989, in New Ulm, MN. He was baptized in Christ at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Hector, MN and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. He was born to Mary Lou Mellies and John Sandgren. Jake is the youngest of three children, always having to follow the rules of his big sisters. Jacob "Jake" John Sandgren, 37, of Richmond, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Jake grew up with a deep love for music, spending many hours playing the guitar and singing oldies, like Johnny Cash, Ozzy, and Bob Marley. He also loved taking his girls on adventures, cooking over the campfire, and spending time at the lake with family. Jake earned his GED and then completed a welding degree at SCTCC. Jake worked as a welder and a drafter for many years and loved his time "putting the puzzle together.” Jake’s proudest moment in his life was when he welcomed his two baby girls, Aria June and Aurora May. Jake’s girls were the light of his life, his biggest moments of joy, and his forever happy place. Whether they were grilling chicken, making smores, swimming off the dock, or on one of their many adventures, his face lit up whenever he was with his kids. He poured his whole heart into fatherhood, determined to give his girls a foundation of unconditional love and joyful memories that will last a lifetime. Jake truly loved his girls. Jake was a man of many words and stories, always wanting to get the last word in. He would dive so deep into the most random topics that he could go on and on forever about. But he spoke with so much passion that we all smiled, took our turns, and listened with open minds. Jake loved his time out at the lake but had a true passion for music. Listening to music, playing music or jamming out with his friends or his mom…he loved music. Jake is survived by his mother, Marylou Mellies, father and stepmother, John and Mary Sandgren; his two children, Aria and Aurora Sandgren; his sisters, Jessica (Tom) Glieden, Jenna (Tim) Haugo; his nephew Owen, nieces Izzy, Ella, Olivia, Gracie and Caroline; special friend Caroline Wadman; and many loving extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
