Brenda Maiers

Brenda M. Maiers, age 74 Cold Spring May 16, 1932 – December 14, 2006 Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2006 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Brenda M. Maiers, age 74, who died peacefully on Thursday in the St. Cloud Hospital. Private burial in the St. Benedict Monastery cemetery will be at a later date. Relatives and friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Monday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church. Parish prayers will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the funeral home. Brenda was born in Stewart, MN to Henry and Grace (McGraw) Maiers. She graduated high school from St. Benedict’s High School, St. Joseph; received her Bachelor of Science Degree in biology from Catholic Univ. of Ponce, Puerto Rico; received her Masters Degree in Education Administration from Catholic Univ. of Ponce and did Doctoral Studies in Education at NYU in New York. Brenda professed vows as a Benedictine Sister in St. Benedict’s Monastery on July 11, 1962. Her career in teaching brought her to Perham, MN, Puerto Rico, Connecticut and Washington D.C. She also was a tax consultant in Virginia and an administrator of the Hutchinson Medical Center, Hutchinson, MN. In her retirement Brenda enjoyed 7 years in Arizona before returning to Minnesota to make her home in Cold Spring. While in Cold Spring she became involved with various organizations in the St. Boniface Parish as well as the community. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and an Oblate of St. Benedict’s Monastery of St. Joseph. Survivors include her siblings, Paul (Margaret) of Stewart, Ginny (Jim) Weis of Chandler, AZ, Stan (Jeannine) of Hutchinson, Therese (George) Kuttner of Stewart, Gen Maiers, OSB of St. Benedict’s Monastery of St. Joseph, Allan (Phyllis) of Brownton, Brennan Maiers, OSB of St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, Gracemarie Maiers, OSB of St. Cloud, Maureen Rubischko of Prior Lake and Patrick (Judy) of Willmar; 55 nieces and nephews; many grand-nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Daniel, Loy, Joseph, Jack, Ray; sister, Sister Mary Jean, CSJ. Memorials preferred to Saint Benedict’s Monastery of St. Joseph, MN, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
