David Charles Swanson

A Memorial Service will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Faith-Lilac Way Lutheran Church, 5530 42nd Ave. N., Robbinsdale, MN 55422 for David Charles Swanson, age 76, who peacefully passed away, with family close, at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. A gathering of relatives and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 18 at the Wenner Funeral Home, 151 Oakwood Ave. S.E., Richmond, MN. Visitation will continue Saturday afternoon from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Faith-Lilac Way Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale. Dave was born on August 17, 1942, in St. Louis Park, MN, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Gustafson) Swanson. He grew up in St. Louis Park, and after graduating from high school, he attended barber school. Under the tutelage of his father-in-law, Dave barbered for over 50 years in St. Louis Park and Golden Valley. He had many of the same customers for most of his career. After nine years of cutting her hair, Dave dated and then married Diane Kostad on September 5, 1987. They made their homes in Golden Valley and Plymouth. They also owned a seasonal cabin on Lake Florida near New London-Spicer for many years, which provided many family gatherings and great fun. After retirement they moved to a lake home on Schneider Lake in Cold Spring. He enjoyed living on the lake and taking great care of his property. A very recent move took Dave and Diane to a new patio home just a short distance from their lake home. Dave was never too big of a sports fan until he married Diane, after which time he had no choice. Dave loved traveling and taking cruises. Most of all Dave loved his family and took great pride in spending time with his grandchildren. Dave is survived by his wife, Diane; one daughter, Debbie (Mark) Overman and their children, John (Sarah), Tom, Brianna Overman; and one son, Tim (Gina) and their children, Samantha, Casey, Jessica Swanson; twin great-grandchildren, Grayson and Korah Overman; and one sister, Susan (Bob) Cianfrani. Following the service, you are invited to the church basement for a meal, fellowship, and to enjoy a couple of Dave’s favorite foods. Those knowing Dave well knew he was a Costco addict; unfortunately, he never had the chance to visit the new Costco being built in St. Cloud. Memorials preferred to the St. Cloud CentraCare Home & Hospice Program or the Quiet Oaks Hospice House.
